Brentwood, NY (October 17, 2021) – Around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, October 17, a man was killed in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Brentwood.
According to Suffolk County Police, the accident happened on the Long Island Expressway. A Kia Optima was driving westbound on the highway when it was suddenly rear-ended by a Honda Accord. The Kia was struck so forcefully that it ran into the guardrail. The driver of the Honda immediately fled the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The passenger in the Kia, identified as 62-year-old Terence McAree, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He was pronounced dead while there. The unidentified driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police have not said if they made an arrest of the party who caused the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
