Manhattan, NY – Boy Killed in Fatal Apartment Fire on W 178th St

Manhattan, NY (October 30, 2021) – Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 30, a boy was killed in a fatal apartment fire in Manhattan.

According to emergency responders, the incident happened in the early morning hours in an apartment on West 178thStreet near Broadway. When fire crews arrived at the scene, they discovered flames tearing through the basement and first floor of the apartment. More than 70 firefighters were called to the scene to help.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. A 7-year-old boy who lived in the building sustained severe burns and was pronounced dead at the scene. The child’s 54-year-old grandmother was hospitalized with serious injuries. Three people inside the building and one firefighter were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The area was blocked off for a period of time as police worked to clear the scene.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
