Manhattan, NY (November 17, 2020) – Around 12:05 p.m. on Monday, November 16, an NYPD officer was injured in a pedestrian crash in Manhattan.

According to authorities, the accident took place at the intersection of 45th Street and 8th Avenue when an officer responded to the area. The officer was out of his vehicle and trying to arrest a 50-year-old man who was sitting in his vehicle at the intersection.

Police confirmed that the suspect hit the gas pedal to flee the scene, which was when he struck the unidentified police officer. It is believed that the officer was hit by the vehicle’s mirror.

The suspect crashed a few blocks away. He then got out of his vehicle and fled into a nearby subway station. It is not known if police have caught him as of yet.

The officer was taken to the hospital with both back and ankle injuries, but he is expected to make a recovery.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
