The Bronx, NY (June 20, 2021) – Officers are searching for a Jeep driver who crashed into a family standing on a Bronx sidewalk on Sunday, June 20.

Surveillance video captured showed several people running from the area after the Jeep runs up onto the sidewalk and strikes several members of the same family, pinning two of them under the vehicle in the process. The incident occurred at a park in the Claremont section of the Bronx on Sunday afternoon. The family was standing at a sidewalk located at Sheridan Avenue and East 170th Street when the Jeep struck them.

Officers said that two of the victims were 16-year-old boys, and one of them was pinned under the Jeep. Another victim, identified as a 34-year-old woman, was also pinned under the Jeep. Five of the victims sustained moderate to minor injuries, but police said the woman who was pinned suffered severe trauma and is in critical condition at an area medical center. All of the victims were transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Police say they are still looking for the driver, who fled the scene shortly after the incident occurred.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the circumstances causing the accident have not been released.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
