Yaphank, NY – Katherine Sajbin Killed in Fatal Crash on LI Expy

Yaphank, NY (January 26, 2021) – On Monday, January 25, a woman was killed in a fatal crash on a highway in Yaphank.

According to Suffolk County officials, the crash took place when a driver lost control on the Long Island Expressway. The crash happened at 2:20 p.m. when the vehicle was headed east on the highway when the 2004 Jeep collided with a 2018 Alfa Romeo.

18-year-old Katherine Sajbin, who was a passenger in the Jeep, as well as 40-year-old Violeta Sajbin who was a passenger in the front of the vehicle, were ejected upon collision. Katherine was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased.

Numerous other victims, including 22-year-old Franklin Sajbin and a 12-year-old in the Jeep, were also hospitalized. The driver of the Alfa Romeo, identified as 55-year-old David Cohen, was not injured.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
