Staten Island, NY (July 27, 2021) – At 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, July 26, two officers were injured in a rollover crash on Staten Island.

According to NYPD officials, the accident occurred at the intersection of Father Capodanno Boulevard and Seaview Avenue. A male officer struck a median and flipped a squad car over onto its side. At the time, the police were on their way to a family dispute. Both officers were trapped in their vehicle and were extricated by bystanders.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The two police officers inside the vehicle were injured and taken to Staten Island University Hospital. Their injuries included neck, back, arm, and shoulder injuries. The officers are both expected to be okay.

It is believed that the officer who was driving the cruiser was improperly turning at the time. It is not known if they were cited.

The roadway was blocked for a short period of time following the collision.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
